Until fairly recently anyone who expressed concern about the destruction of the environment raised skeptical eyebrows. Those days are over, and it appears we all comprehend our role in stopping and perhaps reversing the damage being done to our planet. Unless everyone begins to start living more green we won't be able to fix the problems of the environment. This needs to happen soon and living in ways more friendly to the environment should become a mission for every individual family. The kitchen area is a good starting point saving energy by going much more green.

Start out with exchanging the bulbs. Do this for the whole house, not just the kitchen. You need to upgrade your incandescent lights along with energy-saver, compact fluorescent light bulbs. They cost a small amount more initially, but they last ten times longer, and use less electricity. Changing the light bulbs would keep a lot of bulbs out of the landfills, and that's good. Coupled with different light bulbs, you have to learn to leave the lights off if they are not needed. The kitchen lights in particular are often left on all day long, just because the family tends to spend a lot of time there. And it's not confined to the kitchen, it goes on in other parts of the house at the same time. Do an exercise if you like; take a look at how much electricity you can save by turning the lights off as soon as you don't need them.

As you can see, there are lots of little elements that you can do to save energy, and also save money, in the kitchen alone. Eco-friendly living just isn't that hard. A lot of it really is simply utilizing common sense.
